Part of taking a journey down the road of self-discovery and personal development is spiritual practice.  Some practices, such as conscious breathing and mediation, are essential.  Some are non-essential, but are very beneficial and can be fun to experiment with.  Here are 7 spiritual practices that can help you live a more connected and fulfilling life:

1) Reiki

Reiki has been translated as meaning  “universal life force energy”.   It is a type of healing work whereby a person’s body is healed through the laying on of hands.  The reiki therapist is able to harness life energy and pass it into the body of the patient to help restore physical and emotional well-being.  It essentially raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away.

 2) Yoga

Yoga is a very holistic spiritual practice because it combines the focus and presence of mediation with light physical activity.  When done properly, it can induce an almost trance-like state.  For those who are looking for both a physical tune-up and a spiritual connection, yoga is a fantastic spiritual practice to learn more about.

3) Essential Oils

Essential oils have been used to provide spiritual healing since ancient times.  Instead of leaning entirely on modern medicine to cure what ails you, essential oils can provide a natural alternative to traditional medicine.  Essential oils are known to prevent, alleviate and even cure a variety of ailments including asthma, allergies, headaches and even dandruff.  Some may consider using essential oils to be a spiritual practice because of how they can have a calming and relaxing effect on human psychology.

4) Astrology

Many people already know what their “sign” is on the zodiac, but there are a lot of other variables that make up your astrological chart.  Learning more about the zodiac, the planetary shifts, the solstices,  and other components of astrology can help you understand more about your own personality.  It kind of acts like a compass for character traits and any predispositions you may have to certain behaviours.

5) Numerology

Numerology is built on the belief that numbers have spiritual significance, and by calculating the numbers of things like your birth date, home address and important calendar dates you can unlock important information to help guide you through challenges and understand more about your personality.   Numerologists believe that math is the code of the universe.  If you want to unlock the secrets of life and find guidance to your own life, the answers will be found in numbers.

6) Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a 5000 year old Indian system of mind-body healing.  Ayurveda is built on the premise that when your mind, body and spirit are aligned you will be in harmony with the universe, and this will promote good physical and emotional health.  Suppressing desires is thought to be a cause of illness, so emphasis is put on finding psychological and emotional balance within yourself to prevent illnesses from emerging.  Oils and herbs are common remedies used to treat illnesses with Ayurveda.
Spirituality should be just as much fun as it should be discipline.  By learning to combine discipline with bliss, and play with self-work, spiritual practice can be the missing link in a person’s search for fulfillment.
