We're all racing through life and barely have time to look left or right. We work, eat, and sleep, and unfortunately that leaves little time for the most important thing in life: quality moments shared with our loved ones. This short story shows how quickly time can get away from us and reminds us to cherish every moment together:
While at the park one day, a woman sits down next to a man on a bench near the playground.
"That's my son over there," she says, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater on his way down the slide.
"He's a fine-looking boy," he replies. "That's my daughter in the white dress, riding the bike."
Then, looking down at his watch, he calls out, "Time to go Melissa?"
Melissa begs, "Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more."
The man nods and Melissa continues to ride around on her bike, happy as a clam. Minutes pass and then he stands up again and calls, "Time to go now?"
Again, Melissa pleads with her father, "Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more."
The man smiles and calls out, "Okay."
"My, you certainly are a patient father," the woman responds.
The man smiles and says, "Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I'd give anything for just five more minutes with him. I've promised I wouldn't make the same mistake with Melissa. She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike, truth is, I get five more minutes to watch her play."
Life is all about choosing priorities. What are yours? Share just five more minutes with someone you love today.
A sad, but beautiful story to remind us all to never take for granted the presence of our loved ones. Spending time with someone you love is completely priceless.
