Viera High School was about to vote for the homecoming Queen and expectations were high amongst the contestants. Jazzmin Samuels, a 17-year-old girl was among those who were expecting to win the crown.
There was something which could make her winning special. She could only move with the help if a wheelchair since she suffered from severe cerebral palsy. Though she was not mentally handicapped, she understood that not everyone was aware of that.
She wanted everybody to treat her like any other person and thought the homecoming crown could provide the chance for that. Stories of other contestants with a similar condition who had won the crown inspired her to keep on pushing. With the help of her friends, she was able to actively campaign.
But when the big day came, Caia Gillet, a 17-year-old won the crown. Caia had never met Jazzmin before, but the events of that day will be remembered forever by the two girls. After hearing about Jazzmin’s story, she handed over the crown to her.
