What would you do if a gigantic humpback whale swam up to you from under the water?
One volunteer and professional diver faced such a situation. James Moskito and his crew discovered a tangled humpback in December 2005. The giant humpback was trapped in a massive tangle of rope.
James was the first to dive into the water. The sight of the trapped whale broke his heart.
Luckily for James and his crew, the whale was cooperative. The rescue mission took five hours. According to James, they were able to remove an estimated 3,000 –pound anchor on the whale.
At the spark of freedom, the whale swam next to the volunteers and rubbed against them underwater. He came back, swam to the surface, and gave James an affectionate rub. It was his way of saying thank you.
