Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers. Each year in the United States, there are around 95,000 new cases of colon cancer, with 40,000 new cases of rectal cancer. Almost half the patients who get this diagnosis then die of it.
This is due, among other things, to the fact that conventional treatments such as surgery or chemotherapy aren't always successful with all cancer types. On top of that, they also have some terrible side effects.
Scientists at the University of Adelaide have made a discovery in a study published in the Cancer Research Journal that the lauric acid contained in coconut oil has cancer-killing properties.
In only two days, this component exterminated 90 percent of the cancer cells. The experiments were performed in a Petri dish, under hermetic conditions, and were not carried out on a living organism. So the effectiveness for humans isn't yet known.
So far, a lack of funding has prevented further studies. One reason is that pharmaceutical companies, who obviously want to sell their higher-tech products, haven't shown much interest...
But coconut oil has many other positive effects on health. The same lauric acid, which is also featured in breast milk, strengthens the immune system.
Coconut oil has proven particularly useful with osteoporosis, viral diseases (for example, hepatitis C, herpes), gallbladder infections,  Alzheimer's, and chronic illnesses, in addition to now possibly cancer. Furthermore, it appears to help mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy.
Coconut oil seems like quite a silver bullet when it comes to improving our health.
It's even widely used in the cosmetics industry and lots of people like to apply it on their hair. Once again, nature herself sometimes provides the best solution!
